THE Audit Commission report in to the workings of South Cambridgeshire District Council shows that improvements are coming about.

Indeed, it could not have got worse after last year when the government watchdog virtually condemned the whole structure of the district council.

Obviously, it is going to take time to make all the changes that the Audit Commission desires.

But at least today's report says it is moving in the right direction, and the council leader, Cllr Ray Manning, has accepted that it would take two years to turn it all around.

The difference these days, however, is that the district council has political leadership.

Throughout its past history the council has be in no overall control: a council being run, more or less, from no-man's-land.

Now, at least, is does have a political group in control (and the party doesn't really matter) which means the decision-making process is not as difficult as may have been in the past.

Hopefully, after this year's elections the district council will be able to continue on its improvement journey.
