AT the annual meeting of the Royston Urban District Council, it was decided that nominations for chairman should be written on slips of paper and handed up to the temporary chairman as it was thought there might be some diffidence among members about proposing a chairman.

W C Titchmarsh received seven votes out of the 11 cast and was duly elected chairman.
