Matthew Gooding, in his eagerness to shout the odds about renationalising the rail network (Matt's Crow Country, July 30), conveniently overlooks the minor point that politicians and bureaucrats formulated the current dogs dinner under which it is currently operated.

We are going to hell in a hand cart - let us not go any faster than necessary.
