A COUPLE of weeks ago I got an e-mail saying: "I read the column most months and have started to guide my life somewhere towards where I want it to be, but I felt overwhelmed by the exercise in last month's column. What do I do?" Indeed, finding out what we want to do with the rest of our life can seem a daunting task. As we said last month, don't rush this. Take time to let the picture build up for you. If the answer to what you wanted to do was obvious or straightforward, you'd already know the answer. So may be the first thing to do is to develop an inquiring mindset with regards to what you enjoy and what makes you happy. Start recognising when you're happy and ask yourself: Why? Start focusing on the positive. In life, you get what you focus on. Have you ever noticed that the day you buy yourself a new car, everyone's driving them? Suddenly, you've focused your mind to look for them. It's as simple as that. Unfortunately, many of us have our minds focused on the negative, searching for situations that prove how bad things are. So that's what we get - a negative life. There are almost certainly people in your life that have it worse than you do and yet they're happy. How do they do that? They simply look out for the positive things in life. It's a mindset and it will change your life. Simply start to notice the good things in life and acknowledge them. This will train your mind to carry on focusing on the good stuff, which in turn will make you happier and help you start to find what you want.
