In such words a Government inspector has this week demolished the arguments of councillors who declared that 343 dwellings were too many for Fairfield Estates to build on a 20-acre site at the north end of the town.
"Disgraceful", "scandalous" and "a bitter disappointment" were some of the comments made by town councillors.
