COUNCILLOR Paul Grimes's attempts to exonerate Royston Town Council from any form of criticism are laudable.
However, it does not seem unreasonable to ask him who - or what - he thinks is responsible for Royston's continued decline, especially when other boroughs appear to be more prosperous.
Will he also justify his claim that the council tax would inevitably increase if M&S were to establish a store in the town?
What does rankle with the majority of council tax payers is that public services are not being maintained despite the annual increase in this tax, which is always above the Government's rate of inflation figures.
All is not doom and gloom though.
Despite the diminution of the public service, sufficient funding has been made available to secure increased allowances for district councillors.
