LAST week's Crow Nostalgia picture stirred memories for one man. Trevor Peer said the football team featuring Nick Hancock was not the Tankards, but their rival team, The Blades. "I ran two Blades teams for quite a few years, and Nick was a good footballer," he said. Mr Peer told Crow Nostalgia that the television presenter played for the team for two or three years, "depending if we could get him out of bed on a Sunday". The picture is of The Blades' second team and Mr Peer said they were not playing on the main pitch because there were so many home games every Sunday. He said you could tell it was not the first pitch. "You can see from all the leaves on the ground," he said. Although the football team has now folded, Mr Peer is still in contact with Nick Hancock, who studied at Homerton College for four years before becoming president of Cambridge Footlights in 1984. The Blades played their last game about "eight or nine years ago". Mr Peer said: "People moved away, then we had just one team and it just got harder and harder. They were playing in the top league and decided to go out at the top of their game.
