I was somewhat dismayed this morning, on accompanying my mother to a doctor's surgery in town, to note the bossiness of tone in the written notices. I counted at least 14, telling me what I could or could not have or do, or reprimanding me for some potential misdemeanour.
What has happened to politeness? Instead of telling me - in bold red typeface - that my child will not be vaccinated if the correct book is not produced, why could the notice have not begun "We regret we are unable to vaccinate your child".
The irony of these terse little signs alongside the poster advocating respect for children and young people was not lost on me.
Why are we allowing ourselves to be treated as recalcitrant children?
