IT is a disgrace that North Herts District Council has not listened to the people of Royston in the matter of provision of a toilet at the bus station.
There has been a well argued case for retention of these facilities which has fallen on deaf ears, or perhaps on Conservative Cabinet ears that had no intention of listening.
In the report on public conveniences in North Herts produced in July, it it notable that there has been no research into the usage of any of the Royston loos.
In the case of the bus station facility, the footfall si stated as "not known, but considered low".
Not a very scientific assessment, but obviously enough for minds already made up.
There may be no legal obligation for the district council to provide public toilet, but perhaps there should be.
Perhaps the well-being of the council tax paying public should be of paramount importance.
This is an extremely negative decision, causing a reduction of quality of life and increasing anxiety in the elderly and vulnerable.
Certainly, it is not a civilised action.
We don't need a state-of-the-art "flagship"-type loo at any of the sites in Royston, surely some of the money allocated for other toilets could be used to provide basic, but adequate facilities at all of the sites.
I am sure that if there was the will, a way would be found around this problem.

Royston Palace ward
North Herts District Council
