For 29 years I have hoped that something would be done about the speeding cars, lorries and juggernauts in Whitecroft Road, but no.
It would seem those in charge of this department feel we haven't had enough accidents or deaths. What a strange way to assess public safety.
I am surprised that my very old cottage is still standing, as the cottage stands only 69 inches from the roadway.
Not room to pass on this narrow stretch of road. No problem, - just drive along the pavement. That brings the traffic just inches from my cottage wall.
One day it will happen, as we have already had some near misses, when one of these lorries will end up in my kitchen.
I only hope I am not in the kitchen when this happens.
This road is really busy, taking pupils to the village college in Melbourn, and people to the doctors and shops.
It is served by a very narrow pavement, which infortunately disappears at the site of the war memorial, so one is obliged to either walk in the roadway or on the grass verge to cross - very helpful if you are a mother with a toddler and a buggy to cope with.
On reaching the turkey farm, once again the pavement disappears, so cross over, but be quick, you are very near a dangerous corner, and cross again to go to the shop.
Perhaps the pavement could be extended so one could avoid the crossing and walk straight into the shop.
But I guess this would be too difficult and too expensive for it to be given a thought.
Lorries, cars, juggernauts day and night. What do we have to do to get some traffic calming in Whitecroft Rd?
Oh, of course, at the present rate of speeding and heavy traffic, we may reach that magic number of deaths required.
