I REFER to the letter (Postbag, June 7) "Time to start re-investing in our town".
Although I agree with many of the points raised, I feel that negativity does not help the retailers in Royston who are struggling to provide a good service to their customers.
Royston is not just about Tesco. Royston is not just about charity shops.
Walk down the High Street and up Market Hill and you will find dress shops, jewellers, shoe shops, florists, pet supplies, a toy shop, a tailors, dry cleaners, shoe repairs, motoring supplies, electrical supplies, banks, Boots, Lloyds Pharmacy, gift shops, card shops, confectioners, interior furnishings, stationers, Woolworth, Peacocks (often mentioned on breakfast television for its good value and up-to-the minute fashions) cafes, hardware store, fancy dress and party supplies, travel shop, library, hairdressers, manicurist - need I go on?
Let's stop talking about what Royston has not got and start shouting about what Royston can provide.
I know that car parking charges are a contentious point, but Baldock will soon be following suit and Letchworth and Hitchin already have them.
The old adage is perfectly true "use them or lose them" and if you do not want to see this attractive market town die, then take a step forward and use the diversity the town can provide and you may find exactly what you want on your own doorstep.
After all, we often want that extra bit of personal service and expertise.
Be positive, be adventurous - come and try us, you may be pleasantly surprised.
