At sunset a ring of observation balloons would go up at intervals of 500 yards. Why? And what were they for? We did not know. Several planes were brought down.
Two bottles of stout a day was included in my ration. Otherwise we lived on milk and the products of milk.
One of my jobs was to re-number books in the hospital library. Miss Birdwood (daughter of General Birdwood of the 5th Army) was in charge of this section.
When on that job was provided with "posh" teas. The was moved over to A block.
