One of Britain’s leading saxophone players makes a welcome return to Welwyn Garden City this evening (Sunday).
The Don Weller Quartet plays Herts Jazz Club, in the Terrace Suite, at the Hawthorne Theatre, tonight (Sunday).
Don has featured prominently with artists like Stan Tracey and Gil Evans.
He has worked on film scores such as Absolute Beginners and Stormy Monday, in which he was involved both as a player and composer. He has also been a composer for his own groups for many years for his quartet and big band.
Don epitomises a special generation of UK jazz soloists, inspired as are many by the great tenor players from Coleman Hawkins to Coltrane, with Dexter Gordon and the indefatigable Sonny Rollins all being major influences.
Joining the tenor expert at Herts Jazz will be Dave Newton on piano, Andrew Cleyndert on bass and Dave Barry on drums.
Advance tickets cost £3 students, £8 members, £10 concessions and £11 full.
Walk-ups are £5 students, £9 members, £11 concessions and £13 full.

* Tickets are also on sale for the Herts Jazz Festival 2014.
