Three former TV regulars will be teaming up for the Gordon Craig Theatre’s in-house production of Alan Ayckbourn’s Absent Friends in Stevenage.
EastEnders star Joel Beckett, Terri Dwyer, who appeared in Hollyoaks, and former The Bill favourite Chris Simmons will be appearing in the play, which opens on Wednesday, February 5.
This is the Stevenage theatre’s second foray into the world of Alan Ayckbourn and the cast started rehearsals last Monday.
Brought to the stage by the same team behind the 2012 smash Woman in Mind, this fascinating character study delves into the relationships of a group of old friends and the effect that time has on those relationships.
Playing the lead roles of Paul, Diana and John are three popular television faces that all have theatrical experience.
Heading the cast is Bedfordshire-born Joel Beckett, who is best known for playing Jake Moon in EastEnders and Dawn’s fiancé Lee in The Office.
Playing his wife Diana is the beautiful Terri Dwyer, who played Ruth Osborne in the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks for six years before becoming a presenter on ITV’s 60 Minute Makeover.
She recently appeared on the Hawthorne Theatre stage in Welwyn Garden City in The Vagina Monologues.
Joining Joel and Terri is Chris Simmons, who is famous for playing DC Mickey Webb in police drama The Bill.
With moments of sadness and betrayal, this car-crash of a party their characters are attending is brilliantly funny and helps to make Absent Friends another of Ayckbourn’s classics that you can’t afford to miss.
Absent Friends takes to the Gordon Craig stage from Wednesday, February 5 to Saturday, February 8 at 7.45pm, with 2.30pm matinee performances on the Thursday and Saturday.
Tickets cost £12.50, £16 and £19.50, with matinee performances priced at £17.50.
