AN Abba tribute show will be entertaining fans of the Scandinavian quartet in Welwyn Garden City next month.
THE hit musical Mamma Mia! and subsequent film starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth reminded everyone just how timeless Abba’s songs are.
Dancing Queen, Waterloo, Mamma Mia, The Winner Takes It All, Take A Chance on Me... the list of memorable Abba hits goes on and on.
The Scandinavian quartet – Anni-Frid, Agnetha, Benny and Bjorn – were one of the most commercially successful groups in the history of pop music.
They were the most successful group ever to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest.
And they topped the charts regularly between 1972 to 1982, sold more than 370 million records worldwide and continue to sell even now.
Although you can’t see the original foursome together anymore, you can still enjoy their music through a host of tribute bands that have sprung up in their wake.
One of the best – feted by stars like Derren Brown and former Dr Who star David Tennant, who have used them for their own events – is Planet Abba.
And they will be appearing at the Hawthorne Theatre, in Welwyn Garden City, on Friday, February 1.
Formed in 2002, Planet Abba’s members have built up a reputation for their stage shows which feature full costume changes and a spectacular light show.
However, the element that really makes them stand out from other Abba tributes is that the four performers are all lifelong fans of the band.
Susan Louth (Anni-Frid), Leanne Glover (Agnetha), Harrison Breeze (Benny) and Rob Louth (Bjorn) all grew up jiving to such hits as Dancing Queen and Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight), so they strive to make sure that their act sounds as close to the originals as possible.
So pull on your dancing shoes (flared trousers are not essential, but if you want to…) and boogie on down to the sounds of Mamma Mia, The Winner Takes It All, Take A Chance on Me, Waterloo, SOS and more.
It’s a feel-good extravaganza guaranteed to beat the winter blues!
The performance starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £18.
