THE scorching summer of 1976 and The Wurzels were number one in the UK charts.

Fortunately, Combine Harvester (Brand New Key) was dislodged from the number one slot by The Real Thing and soul classic You To Me Are Everything.

Forward 36 years and original vocalists Eddy Amoo, brother Chris Amoo and Dave Smith will be appearing live at Hertford Theatre on Saturday, April 21.

As well as topping the charts in June 1976, the Liverpool soul group also reached number two with follow-up single Can’t Get By Without You and hit the top 10 again in 1979 with Can You Feel The Force.

Seven years later, all three tracks were remixed and became huge hits again, thanks to their huge club following.

Children Of The Ghetto, another Amoo brothers’ composition, has been covered by acts as diverse as Phillip Bailey of Earth, Wind and Fire on the Chinese Wall album and Courtney Pine on his Journey To The Urge Within album.

The song was also featured in the Spike Lee movie Clockers.

With their own five-piece band, the Real Thing show includes all their top 10 hits, plus a medley of classics from the 70s.

Tickets are £22.50 and £20 and available from the box office on 01992 531500 or to book on line www.hertfordtheatre.com
