THE Magic of the Beatles can be heard in Hertfordshire this evening (Sunday).
The appeal of The Beatles’ immense back catalogue shows no sign of waning.
And The Magic of the Beatles will be bringing the sound of John, Paul, George and Ringo to the Broxbourne Civic Hall, in Hoddesdon, tonight (Sunday).
The Fab Four live tribute show celebrates the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ first number one album, Please Please Me.
The show promises to transport music fans from The Beatles’ Mop Top roots to the psychedelia of Sgt Pepper and beyond, from Love Me Do to Let It Be.
“The Magic of the Beatles is a two-hour spectacular featuring superb costumes and a cast of skilled musicians and singers,” said show producer Michael Taylor.
“It authentically recreates the live concert shows of John, Paul, George and Ringo that generated fan hysteria never seen before or since.”
Although Please Please Me topped the album charts, the single of the same name does not feature as a number one in the authoritative British Hit Singles Chart.
In 1963, it topped the New Musical Express and Melody Maker charts.
However, it only got to number two in the Record Retailer chart, which was the official chart of the time.
“Please Please Me was The Beatles’ very first number one hit album, however,” added Taylor.
“And the hit singles on it provided the genesis of the greatest band in the world.”
The 10 songs for the album Please Please Me were laid down in the recording studio in a single day, in a session costing just £400.
When released, the album included Beatles classics like I Saw Her Standing There, Love Me Do, Do You Want to Know a Secret and Twist and Shout, as well as title track Please Please Me.
The Beatles had to wait until April 1963 before scoring their first number one single in the Record Retailer chart – with the song From Me to You. They went on to top the charts twice more that year, with She Loves You and I Want to Hold Your Hand.
Fifty years on, The Magic of the Beatles ensures the Fab Four’s incredible musical legacy lives on.
The Magic of the Beatles play Broxbourne Civic Hall, in High Street, Hoddesdon, on Sunday. Tickets cost £20.50.
