HERTFORDSHIRE music festival Standon Calling 2013 is battling some of the country’s biggest names in the UK Festival Awards.
This summer’s sold-out Standon event has been shortlisted in five categories in the prestigious industry awards.
Sunday night showstoppers De La Soul are in the running for the coveted Best Headline Performance of 2013 for their set at Standon in the Hertfordshire countryside.
The American hip-hop legends face tough competition from the likes of Glastonbury’s three headliners – The Rolling Stones, Arctic Monkeys and Mumford & Sons – and V Festival acts Beyonce and Kings of Leon.
Reading & Leeds Festival bands Green Day and Biffy Clyro are also on the list of nominations, as is Elton John’s Bestival performance.
Bastille, who played Standon Calling, are also up for the gong for their show at Blissfields.
Founded by Alex Trenchard, Standon Calling has been nominated in the ‘Best Small Festival’ category for events of less than 10,000 capacity.
Known for its friendly atmosphere and fancy-dress theme, Standon is also on the list of events up for the ‘Best Family Festival’ and ‘The Grass Roots Festival’ awards.
The festival is also on the long list of candidates for ‘Best Toilets’.
A statement from Standon Calling said: “We’ve been nominated for five awards at the 2013 UK Festival Awards and for the first time we’re up for Best Headline Performance thanks to hip-hop legends De La Soul.
“It’s about time we won one again. Everyone knows we’ve got the best festival toilets out there for example, but the gong keeps evading us.
“Last year even Reading Festival made the short-list ahead of us and their facilities are more Mordor than maintained.”
Vote for Standon at www.festivalawards.com by the end of the month, with the winners announced on December 2 at a glitzy awards night being held at The Roundhouse in London.
There’s also a new industry-judged category this year called ‘Best Use of New Technology’.
Connected to this, Standon Calling founder Alex Trenchard will be speaking about the festival’s cashless site this summer on the New Technology Panel at the Festival Awards Conference.
Camper Van Tickets for Standon Calling 2014 are now on sale, alongside a limited number of Super Early Bird Tickets. Camper Van slots are priced at £50 per pitch.
A festival statement said: “There are a total of 60 camper van spaces available in all, so due to demand we’d advise you to book sooner, rather than later, to secure a spot.”
Super Early Bird Tickets for Standon Calling 2014 are also on sale at just £85, which is the same price as Early Bird Tickets for 2013.
Kids’ Early Bird Tickets are on sale for £5 each, while under-fours go free.
The 2014 festival will take place over the weekend of August 1-3.
