Splash! contestant Patrick Monahan will be taking the plunge for charity in Welwyn Garden City.
The stand-up comic is due to appear on tonight’s (Saturday’s) round of celebrity diving show Splash! under the tutelage of London 2012 Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley.
Monahan said: “As a comedian I’m always up for any challenge and there’s no greater challenge than jumping off a diving board, metres in the air, wearing only a smile and some Speedos.
“Splash! is a great Saturday night family entertainment show and I’m so chuffed to be part of it, it’s the perfect start to the year.”
The loveable Teessider, who likes hugging and eating cake – but not simultaneously – will be hoping for belly laughs, rather than bellyflops, when he drops into Welwyn Garden City next month.
Having performed a sell-out show at the Hawthorne Theatre last year in aid of The Mixed Group and the YMCA, the comedian returns to WGC on Saturday, February 22.
He will be bringing his Cake Charmer UK Tour to town for a special YMCA Central Herts fundraiser at the Gosling Sports Park in Stanborough Road.
Monahan can be seen in diving action before then, with Splash! on ITV1 at 7pm tonight (Saturday), with the programme hosted by Gabby Logan and Vernon Kay.
The comedian will be competing against singer and musician Paul Young, The Only Way Is Essex star Dan Osborne, model Danielle Lloyd and Conservative MP Penny Mordaunt.
They will be battling for the next two semi-final spots in front of a panel of expert judges, including Team GB’s diving coach Andy Banks, comedienne, writer and actress Jo Brand and former Olympic diver Leon Taylor.
At the end of the show, the contestant at the top of the leaderboard will go through to the semi-final, while the next two contestants face a Splash!-off.
The judges will then decide which diver was the most successful and they too will go through to the semi-final.
Recently seen on Sky as host of Jongleurs Live! and Fake Reaction on ITV2, Monahan also took part in Let’s Dance For Sports Relief on BBC, and won best newcomer at the Loaded Lafta Awards and Forth Radio Best Stand-Up People’s Choice Award for his hit show ‘Hug Me I Feel Good’.
Renowned for his anecdotes and charm, his stand-up tour is ‘choc-a-block’ full of cakes, gags and hugs.
And tickets for his Gosling Sports Park show are sure to go like hot cakes!
Tickets for the 16 plus show in Welwyn Garden City cost £12, plus booking fee, and are available from www.wegottickets.com/event/242784
