THE third 2014 line-up announcement for the Sonisphere Festival at Knebworth Park is due early next month.
"If you are there on the day it is highly likely that you will hear some of these songs played live for the very last time ever."
The international touring rock and metal extravaganza returns to the grounds of Knebworth House from Friday, July 4 to Sunday, July 6.
There will be exclusive headline appearances from Iron Maiden and Metallica at Sonisphere’s UK leg next summer, with the 2014 festival celebrating 40 years of rock events at the Hertfordshire stately home.
Electronic dance-rock titans The Prodigy were announced last week as the third Sonisphere Knebworth headliner.
A statement from organisers KiliLive at the time said: “We wish Sonisphere fans a Merry Christmas. We will be back with more line-up information early in the New Year.”
In response to a question on Twitter whether there will be another announcement before Christmas, the festival’s @sonisphere handle tweeted back: “@littlebluesmoke Early Jan now. Will have to look forward to it like a calendar looks forward to a new year.”
Answering a similar request, Sonisphere also tweeted: “@Gremz will be after Christmas now. Experience has shown y’all take pre-Christmas announcements for granted come the new year.”
The festival’s line-up poster also states: “Many more bands and artists to be announced.”
The headliner day splits have been confirmed though.
The Prodigy will top the bill on the opening Friday night, with British heavy metal legends Iron Maiden bringing their Maiden England world tour to a close at Knebworth on Saturday, July 5.
Thrash metal gods Metallica, who played a gig in Antarctica earlier this month, will bring the Knebworth music festival to a finale on the Sunday night with their interactice ‘By Request’ set chosen by fans.
Ahead of next summer’s celebration of the 40th anniversary of concerts at Knebworth, the Welwyn Hatfield Times – the festival’s local newspaper – has created an interactive timeline.
The exclusive chronograph features video clips of all the top acts who have appeared on the hallowed turf – from Led Zeppelin to Queen, and Deep Purple to Rammstein.
Take a look at the amazing timeline here.
So far only three acts – the main stage headliners – have been confirmed for Sonisphere’s fourth visit to Knebworth.
But the festival’s alternating Apollo and Saturn stages will return next summer as before.
If Sonisphere follows the same blueprint as 2011, with only one stage used on the opening Friday, there are still three Apollo stage sub-headliners to be revealed, and there will be Saturn ‘second’ stage headliners on the Saturday and Sunday.
Groups and comedians appearing in the Bohemia area have still to be announced as well, including any late-night special sets.
Early bird weekend tickets for Sonisphere are on sale now price £170, with a deposit scheme in place.
They are available from the festival’s website at http://sonisphere.co.uk/
Day tickets have not gone on sale yet.
