The third Sonisphere 2014 music festival headliner for Knebworth Park next summer will be announced this week.
Organisers of the rock and metal event confirmed via social media that the final main stage headliner will be revealed on Wednesday evening.
The international touring festival’s UK leg will take place in the grounds of Knebworth House from Friday, July 4 to Sunday, July 6.
Heavy metal giants Iron Maiden and Metallica are the only bands so far announced for Sonisphere 2014, which will celebrate 40 years of festivals at the Hertfordshire stately home.
KiliLive promoter and Team Sonisphere member Alan Day (@alandayrocks) took to Twitter earlier today (Tuesday) to confirm the next line-up announcement will be made tomorrow (Wednesday, December 11).
He tweeted: “so, we are announcing a band for @Sonisphere tomorrow evening. I’ve jumped off the stage at one of their shows before ! yes !”
Sonisphere’s official Twitter account @Sonisphere also tweeted: “3rd headliner announcement Wednesday evening. 100% Fact.”
The festival’s Facebook page posted an update, stating: “3rd Sonisphere Knebworth – Headliner announcement Wednesday/Tomorrow evening. Thinking caps on, who is it going to be?”
A later tweet from @Sonisphere confirmed the headliner will be announced at 6pm.
However, there will be no big Sonisphere show in France next year, organisers have confirmed.
Sonisphere France has previously been held the same weekend as Knebworth.
A tweet from @Sonisphere today (Tuesday) said: “Sonisphere Festival not returning to Amneville this year, but looks like some smaller Sonisphere Nights events are being planned for summer.”
A statement on the festival’s Facebook page further explained the move.
It read: “With regrets, The Sonisphere and Nous Productions teams announce that Sonisphere France will not happen in 2014.
“The decision to cancel the next edition wasn’t easy.”
The statement claims the festival “isn’t welcome anymore in Amneville due to the political situation”.
A series of ‘Sonisphere Nights’ in Paris and Province are being arranged instead for next June and July.
Rival French festival Hellfest has already unveiled a heavyweight line-up featuring Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Soundgarden, Slayer, Rob Zombie, Deep Purple, Megadeth and Avenged Sevenfold.
Hellfest takes place from June 20 to June 22, meaning some of the acts playing there – and not booked to appear at Download – are likely to pitch up at Knebworth next summer.
Sonisphere 2014 tickets for Knebworth are on sale now via the festival’s website http://sonisphere.co.uk/
Early bird weekend camping tickets cost £170, and are available for a limited period.
