SONISPHERE 2014 organisers have confirmed the first two headliners for next summer’s rock festival taking place at Knebworth House.
British heavy metal legends Iron Maiden and American thrash metal giants Metallica will co-headline the three-day event being held in the grounds of the Hertfordshire stately home next July.
This will be the only UK shows by Metallica and Iron Maiden in 2014.
And it is first time they have appeared together on the same festival bill in this country.
Sonisphere will return to Knebworth Park from Friday, July 4 to Sunday, July 6, with the festival celebrating 40 years of rock at the iconic outdoor venue.
Both Metallica and Iron Maiden headlined their first ever Knebworth concerts under the Sonisphere banner, in 2009 and 2010 respectively.
A Sonisphere statement read: “And now these giants of the world stage return together to fly the Sonisphere flag once more; bigger and bolder than ever before.
“For the first time ever fans will have the chance to see both bands come together to head up what will surely make for one of the most historic festival bills in heavy rock music.”
Metallica will be performing a special career-spanning set requested by fans.
"We said in 2013 that if we had the right line-up then we would be back, and that’s exactly what we’ve got in 2014."
Fans who purchase tickets online will be invited to vote on the setlist Metallica will play at the show – giving them the chance to help build their dream set from the 30 plus years of Metallica’s material and close to 140 recorded songs to date.
British legends Iron Maiden, meanwhile, will bring their immensely successful ‘Maiden England’ World Tour to a spectacular finale.
Tickets are on sale now via the Sonisphere website http://sonisphere.co.uk/
Early bird weekend tickets cost £170, with limited availability.
