My First Tooth

RHYTHMS of the World may not be on this year, but fans can still get their fix with some of the bands it has featured throughout the years.

It all starts next Saturday (March 9) at Club 85, with four bands raring to go at a new event hosted by one of the acts, Hitchin “Roots & Roll” band Beau Jangles.

The Roots and Roll Cafe has teamed up with The Peel Club for the Hitchin show, which features My First Tooth, The Folk, Beau Jangles and Guidokm.

My First Tooth entertained RotW crowds in 2011, but things have moved on since then for the Northampton four piece.

The alternative folk popsters are getting plaudits from all sides, having played at Glasto as well as Rhythms, and are touring to promote new album Love Makes Monsters.

The Folk were a revelation at last year’s festival. The all-girl Hertfordshire trio combine sprightly indie pop with enticing folk musicianship, to become one of the most talked about new bands in the county.

Hosts Beau Jangles return as a duo performing their own distinctive roots and roll, while Guidokm makes his Club 85 debut with a solo set, featuring a host of rock ‘n’ roll favourites and a couple of original songs thrown into the mix. His new EP will be available on the night.

Roger King, from Club 85, says: “The Roots & Roll Cafe is a new regular event at Club 85 featuring a more relaxed ambience with seating and candles and styles of music less commonly showcased at the venue.

“From folk and roots to blues and rock ‘n’ roll, and everything in between and beyond.”

Doors open at 7.45pm with music kicking off from 8.15pm – arrive early to get the best seats.

Entry to the 16+ event is £6 on the door.
