Mostly Comedy will be back in Hitchin after stand-up duo Doggett and Ephgrave rolled out two London versions of the show which were recommended by Time Out.

The latest monthly instalment at the Market Theatre sees a Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee at the helm.

Nick Helm has had a stellar couple of years since his first Hitchin appearance at the fourth ever Mostly Comedy back in 2009.

Since then he has made numerous appearances on Channel 4’s 8 out of 10 Cats and BBC3’s Live at The Electric, and starred in both his own pilot for Channel 4, Uncle, and in Nick Helm’s Christmas Spectacular, broadcast as part of last year’s BBC Radio 1 Boxing Day schedule.

On top of that, his quip “I needed a password eight characters long, so I picked Snow White and the Seven Dwarves” earnt him the title of Dave’s Funniest Joke on the Fringe 2011 – the same year that also saw him receive his Foster’s Comedy Award nomination, and a listing in Chortle’s Top Ten Comedy Gigs of 2011.

Joining Helm is stand-up Meryl O’Rourke, a much sought-after gag writer in the comic industry having worked on many of the flagship panel shows and comedy programmes for BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Dave.

She recently supported Frankie Boyle at the Hammersmith Apollo as part of his national tour, with the comedian describing her as “a tiny sparkling nymph that dances on the palm of the God of laughter”.

Completing the line-up are Hackney Empire New Act of the Year finalist Nathaniel Metcalfe, Spandex Ballet and Hitchin hosts Doggett and Ephgrave.

The gig takes place at the venue in Sun Street next Thursday, February 28, with the first act taking the stage at 9.15pm.

Tickets are £8 – visit www.mostlycomedy.co.uk to book.
