THE first concert of the new Friends Meeting House season today (Sunday) brings the very talented singing duo of Suzanna and Richard Perry to Welwyn Garden City.
Soprano Suzanna performs regularly in opera roles and as an oratorio soloist, while baritone Richard appears as a soloist with choral societies and as a recitalist.
Together they bring a wide ranging recital of solo songs and duets, accompanied not only by Helen Shabetai on the piano, but also, in some very special arrangements, by the string quartet Occasional Strings.
The music, with the theme of love and loss, ranges from the classical – Pergolesi and Mozart opera arias – via a group of popular Schubert lieder, to romantic and sensuous songs by Fauré, Satie, Strauss and Mahler.
They will finish with some songs from the shows Fiddler on the Roof, Showboat and Porgy and Bess.
The concert in Handside Lane starts at 6pm. Admission is free with a retiring collection for the Ladies Samaritan Society.
