Ahead of Monday’s Sonisphere 2014 line-up announcement, here’s a look back at previous Knebworth music festival headliners.

The inaugural Sonisphere at Knebworth House in 2009 was headlined by Linkin Park and Metallica.

School’s Out shock-rocker Alice Cooper, German industrial metallers and pyrotechnic lovers Rammstein and heavy metal legends Iron Maiden topped the bill at the Hertfordshire stately home in 2010.

Thrash metal’s Big 4 – Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth – opened the sold-out 2011 festival on the Friday.

Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro and masked Iowa metallers Slipknot headlined the following two days.

After two years away, rock and metal fans will discover on Monday evening who will top the bill at Sonisphere 2014 to mark 40 years of music festivals at Knebworth Park.
