As previously announced by the Welwyn Hatfield Times, Iron Maiden and Metallica will exclusively headline Sonisphere’s Hertfordshire leg, playing their only UK shows of 2014 at Knebworth.

Also on the bill are nu-metal legends Limp Bizkit as special guests on the main Apollo stage before The Prodigy on the opening Friday night.

British heavy metal legends Iron Maiden will round off their Maiden England World Tour at Knebworth on the Saturday, playing some songs live for the last time ever.

At present, there is still a space on the Sonisphere 2014 line-up poster for “special guests” below Iron Maiden on the Apollo stage on the Saturday night.

The remaining special guest will be confirmed next week.

Thrash metal titans Metallica will perform their interactive ‘By Request’ set on the Sunday night, with ticket holders able to vote online for any tracks from the band’s 140-song catalogue.

Seattle rock legends Alice in Chains will play the Apollo stage before Metallica on the closing day.

Sonisphere’s two main stages alternate, giving festival-goers the opportunity to watch everyone playing both the Apollo and Saturn arenas.

A big name act, as yet unconfirmed, will top the Saturn bill on the Sunday, taking the stage between Apollo special guests Alice in Chains and headliners Metallica.
