The first Sonisphere 2014 line-up announcement of the year for the festival’s UK leg at Knebworth will be made on Monday.
The rock and metal festival returns to the grounds of Knebworth House from Friday, July 4 to Sunday, July 6.
Promoters of the European touring festival have revealed on social media when the next line-up announcement will be made.
A status update on the Sonisphere Facebook page today (Saturday) read: “Next line-up announcement coming your way at 5.30pm on Monday 6th January.”
The festival’s Twitter handle, @sonisphere, also tweeted this afternoon (Saturday): “Psst...next line-up announcement coming this Monday at 5.30pm. Any guesses who’ll be unveiled?”
Among the replies to that tweet by Sonisphere Twitter followers were suggestions of Mastodon, Ghost, Machine Head, Korn, Queens of the Stone Age, Slayer, Limp Bizkit, Airbourne, Soundgarden, The Darkness and Skrillex.
Slayer, Mastodon, Ghost and Gojira have already been confirmed for Sonisphere Norway in Oslo and Sonisphere’s Finland leg in Helskini.
Mastodon, Ghost and Slayer will also support Metallica at Sonisphere Hamburg.
Sonisphere co-founder Stuart Galbraith told the Welwyn Hatfield Times last month that the festival’s bookers had been looking through previous Knebworth line-ups to help celebrate the famous rock venue’s 40-year history.
Of the groups so far announced, The Prodigy will play the opening Friday night at Knebworth.
Metal legends Iron Maiden and Metallica will exclusively headline Sonisphere’s UK leg over the following two days.
The two bands have never appeared on the same UK bill before, and will be playing their only UK shows of 2014 at Knebworth.
Bruce Dickinson and his Iron Maiden bandmates will bring their Maiden England World Tour to a spectacular finale at Knebworth on the Saturday, playing some songs live for the last time ever.
Metallica, meanwhile, will close the festival with their interactive ‘By Request’ set, with ticket holders able to vote online for any tracks from the band’s 140-song catalogue.
The 17 most popular choices will be performed on the Sunday night. A new track will also be chosen by Metallica.
Weekend tickets for Sonisphere 2014 are on sale now. They are available from the Sonisphere Festival website.
Day tickets for Knebworth have not gone on sale yet.
