After five years as, predominately, a solo artist, BBC Folk Singer of the Year nominee Lucy Ward has now put together a band to bring to the live stage her beautiful and unique sound.

And she will be playing live in The Green Room, at The Doctors Tonic, in Welwyn Garden City, on Saturday, April 12.

Lucy, who has played all the major UK folk festivals and has graced the prestigious Acoustic Stage at Glastonbury, is touring with her group of very talented and experienced musicians.

On keys and harmony vocals is ex-Rachel Unthank and The Winterset member Belinda O’Hooley.

Belinda is now part of the very successful folk duo O’Hooley and Tidow, who have just had their third album The Hum featured on Mark Radcliffe’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Show.

Heidi is also a key member of the band, providing harmonies and playing various instruments.

On fiddle is classically trained Joy Gravestock and the rhythm section is Steve MacLachlan on drums/percussion and Sam Pegg on bass.

The band provide a lush and dynamic platform for Lucy’s warm and dynamic voice, as she performs songs from her two acclaimed albums, some classic traditional songs and the occasional surprising cover.

One of the rising stars of UK folk, Lucy Ward is an award-winning singer-songwriter from Derby.

She plays guitar, ukulele and concertina, but considers her voice to be her first instrument.

Her second album, Single Flame, was released on Navigator Records in August 2013 to widespread acclaim.

BBC Radio 2’s Mark Radcliffe called it “mature and unflinching” and Single Flame came second in the MOJO Folk Album of the Year Chart for 2013.

The Lucy Ward Band will appear at The Green Room, in WGC, on April 12.

Tickets cost £10 and are on sale via wegottickets.com
