Alistair White will be appearing at Herts Jazz Club in Welwyn Garden City

ARGUABLY the two finest jazz trombonists on the UK scene today will be performing at Campus West in Welwyn Garden City this weekend.

Mark Nightingale and Alistair White pay tribute to the music of two of their own idols, JJ Johnson and Kai Winding, with arrangements by Nightingale at the latest Herts Jazz Club concert on Sunday night.

Johnson was one of the first trombonists to embrace bebop music.

He has long been regarded as one of the leading trombonists of the post-swing era, and along with Danish-born Winding, exerted a pervasive influence on other jazz musicians through the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Herts Jazz artistic director Clark Tracey said: “We’re also really pleased to have the outstanding pianist John Horler at the club for the first time.

“This band always goes down a storm and is another one well worth booking ahead for.”

Alex Dankworth will be on bass and Clark himself on drums.

Tickets cost £11 if bought online, £13 at the door and £8 for club members.

Students and under-21s pay just £5.
