Some of the biggest names in folk music will be appearing at Hatfield House today (Sunday) at the Folk by the Oak festival.
Amid the ancient oaks of Hatfield Park, Folk by the Oak will return for its seventh annual festival this afternoon.
The summer showcase of all things folk, roots and acoustic has a history of creating a “line-up of headliners” and 2014 is no exception.
The uplifting day of music will feature the likes of guitar great Richard Thompson, BRIT Award winner Beth Orton, acclaimed folk singer-songwriter Seth Lakeman and Kathryn Tickell on the main stage.
The festival will also feature performances from folk supergroup The Elizabethan Session, Catrin Finch & Seckou Keita and Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker.
Doors open at 12.30pm and the music starts around 1.30pm. The event finishes around 10.30pm.
Adult tickets cost £40 on the gate, subject to availability.
Known for her ‘folktronica’ sound, which mixes elements of folk and electronica, Beth Orton was initially recognised for her collaborations with William Orbit and the Chemical Brothers in the mid-1990s.
With the release of albums Central Reservation (1999) and the 2002 UK top 10 album Daybreaker, Beth developed a devoted fan base, many of whom will be delighted with Sunday’s rare opportunity to see her at a UK festival this summer.
Seth Lakeman, meanwhile, is widely regarded as the UK’s foremost folk singer-songwriter.
He has been credited with breaking down perceptions and barriers often associated with folk music and its acceptance in the mainstream.
Fans at Folk by the Oak can expect a captivating, energetic and undeniably compelling live show from the award-winning musician and his superbly talented band.
The Elizabethan Session’s unique set will bring together an entire festival line-up in itself, and will be the epilogue to a very special project commissioned by Folk by the Oak and the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS).
