Long-standing and popular guest conductor David Ireson is being welcomed back by Carillon Chamber Choir for their fourth concert of the season next Saturday, March 29.

It is being held at 7.30pm at St Saviour’s Church in Sandpit Lane, and features the work of Heinrich Schütz, a favourite composer of David’s.

Carillon is performing his last work, Deutsches Magnificat, completed in 1671, a year before he died at the age of 87.

The choir is also singing three of the Strathclyde by James MacMillan, one of the finest contemporary composers of religious choral music. They are O radiant Dawn (the title of the concert), Factus est repente and Benedicimus Deum Caeli.

The final work is Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine – complete with wind effects – by the popular contemporary composer Eric Whitacre. His celebrated Virtual Choir projects are well-known all over the world.

Internationally-known British-Russian pianist and composer Alissa Firsova will play three works – her own piece, Lune rouge, Hymn to Spring by her mother, Elena Firsova and the world premiere performance of Blake’s Visionary Heads – based on five of the artist William Blake’s portraits – by her father, Dmitri Smirnov.

Tickets at £14 (full price) and £12 (students and pensioners) can be obtained in advance by telephoning 01582 763774 or at the door on the night.
