Jazz musician, Orphy Robinson, brings together top jazz players to present Van Morrison’s Astral Weeks at Saffron Hall on Friday, November 16. The vocals will be sung by Sarah Jane Morris, best known for her work with The Communards on songs including Don’t Leave Me This Way.

Robinson, a Jazz FM Live Experience of the Year Award winner, who plays vibraphone, keyboards, saxophone, trumpet, piano, marimba, steelpans, and drums and who has written music for television, film, and theatre, is celebrating 50 years of Van Morrison’s masterpiece, released in November 1968.

This was the second studio album by the Northern Irish singer-songwriter. It was recorded at Century Sound Studios in New York during September and October 1968, and released in November that year.

The album’s music blends folk, blues, jazz, and classical styles, signalling a radical departure from the sound of Morrison’s previous pop hits, such as Brown Eyed Girl in 1967.

Concert 7.30pm, tickets £15-£30 from www.saffronhall.com or 0845 548 7650.
