THE final countdown has started to next week’s Herts Jazz Festival 2012 in Welwyn Garden City.
Organisers have released the last batch of tickets for the three-day music extravaganza being held at Campus West from Friday, September 14 to Sunday, September 16.
The second Herts festival, supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and famous Italian piano maker Fazioli, features some of the best British and European jazz musicians.
Herts Jazz Festival director and drummer Clark Tracey said: “With stars ranging from Zoe Rahman to Martin Taylor and from Troyka to Stan Tracey, we want as many jazz fans as possible to come along over the weekend.
“Tickets have been selling well which will ensure a great atmosphere.”
As a special taster for the festival, there will be a performance of Chet Baker: Like Someone in Love, based on the dark and fascinating life of trumpeter Chet Baker, at the Hawthorne Theatre on Thursday, September 13.
All festival ticket holders and Herts Jazz Club members will receive 20 per cent discount and weekend ticket-holders will have free admittance.
The music starts for real the following night with Echoes of Ellington playing the Hawthorne Theatre from 8.30pm.
A jam session with the Gareth Williams Trio follows from 11.30pm to 1am in the Studio.
Saturday highlights include acclaimed pianist Zoe Rahman and her quartet and the Dave Newton Quintet.
Veteran pianist Stan Tracey will perform with his quartet including Bobby Wellins from 9pm.
Sunday sees Herts Jazz Club’s very own drummer Clark Tracey take the stage with his tribute to Art Blakey at 5pm and that’s followed by a performance from Troyka at 7pm.
One of the hottest tickets of the weekend will surely be the Martin Taylor/Alan Barnes duo on Sunday from 9pm.
Tickets for the Herts Jazz Festival are available for the whole weekend at £90, and £80 for Herts Jazz members, with students paying £40.
Day tickets are also on sale for the Saturday at £55, £50 for members and £25 students and for Sunday at £45, £40 for members and £20 students.
Tickets for individual gigs are also available.
