Guitar great Richard Thompson has been confirmed for Folk by the Oak 2014 at Hatfield House.
The day-long festival of award-winning contemporary folk artists returns for the seventh time on Sunday, July 20.
And critically-acclaimed guitarist Richard Thompson, who was named one of Rolling Stone’s Top 20 Guitarists of All Time, will join the ‘line-up of headliners’ in the grounds of the Hertfordshire stately home.
He joins the already confirmed Seth Lakeman, Kathryn Tickell & The Side, The Elizabethan Session and duo Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker on the July bill.
Having co-founded the ground-breaking group Fairport Convention as a teenager in the 60s, Richard and his mates virtually invented British folk rock.
A prolific songwriter, a wide range of musicians have recorded Thompson’s music, including Robert Plant, Elvis Costello and REM, and Thompson’s massive body of work includes more than 40 albums, Grammy nominations as well as numerous soundtracks.
Thompson’s genre-defying mastery of both acoustic and electric guitar, along with dizzying energy and on stage wit, continue to earn him new fans and a place as one of the most distinctive virtuosos in folk rock history.
Folk by the Oak festival director Adam Slough is pleased to have the Ivor Novello award winner on board.
He said: “We are really delighted with this addition to our line-up.
“The Folk by the Oak team have developed a reputation for putting on a truly memorable one day festival and Richard will bring so much talent and excitement to what is already a star-filled programme this year.”
