First World War theme for Radlett art exhibition

AN ARTIST who has had two kidney transplants and undergone periods of dialysis is exhibiting her work at the Radlett Centre for a month from next Tuesday, October 2.

Glynnis Abraham is putting on the exhibition entitled Dora and Gladys on the ground floor of the Radlett Centre in Aldenham Avenue.

It is a series of paintings depicting the First World War inspired by her collection of postcards sent by soldiers on the front line and elsewhere to their girlfriends.

Dora and Gladys receive news via postcards that are sent from the front line which are heavily censored so as not to give anything away.

Among the works on show will be The War Horse which shows extreme exhaustion, The Cavalry offering hope and freedom and The Lone Soldier appearing in the collection as a memorial.

Although Dora and Gladys can be seen on the ground floor Glynnis, a trained artist, will be showing landscape and abstract works in the Apthorp Gallery.

The exhibition runs until October 31.
