THE classic Old English epic poem Beowulf has been given an up-to-date working.

It is not really the acting that captures the attention - in spite of a cast that includes Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich and Angelina Jolie - but the pure scale of the animated action scenes.

Certainly, the backroom special effects team have given this tale a certain touch of excitement with the use of all their modern day technological wizardry.

The story, however, remains much like the original.

After destroying the demon Grendel, our hero incurs the wrath of the beast's seductive mother who is determined to ensure revenge, leading to an epic battle.
