American Gangster

RIDLEY Scott has taken a true story and turned it into a gripping cat-and-mouse drama.

American Gangster revolves around Frank Lucas, a man who became a drug lord and created a criminal empire in 1970s Harlem.

But there is New York detective Richie Roberts on his trail, and determined that justice will be done.

There is certainly a chemistry between Denzil Washington as the drug lord and Russell Crowe as the cop.

Scott, as usual, pays attention to detail and has created a believable picture of a time when drugs and desperation seemed to rule.

To see the story develop from both sides, Scott, too, has created a drama that captures the attention and rarely lacks in pace.

It's worthwhile just to see for the acting ability of Washington and Crowe.
