Tony Kofi is set to join the Clark Tracey Trio at Herts Jazz Club, at the Hawthorne Theatre, Campus West, on Sunday night.

They will be playing the music of Thelonious Monk.

Winner of the 2008 BBC Jazz Award for best instrumentalist, Tony won a scholarship to study for a year at Berklee College in Boston.

He has performed with David Murray Big Band, Courtney Pine, US3, and is the latest member of The World Saxophone Quartet.

His album of Monk’s compositions, All is Know, won the 2005 Jazz Parliamentary Award and the 2005 BBC Jazz Award for best ensemble and best album.

He is currently working with Abdullah Ibrahim and Ekaya.

With his full-bodied sound, clear articulation and committed attack, Tony has the immediacy and impact of the established masters of the jazz saxophone.

And like them, he plays at full stretch, whether rampaging over a hard-edged groove or gently warming a ballad with a perfectly balanced vibrato.

While Tony will be on saxes on Sunday, Bruce Boardman will be on piano, Mark Levandowsky on bass and Herts Jazz Festival supremo Clark Tracey on drums.

The concert starts at 7.30pm.

Advance tickets cost £3 students, £8 club members, £10 concessions and £11 full.

Walk-ups on the night are £5 students, £9 members, £11 concessions and £13 full.
