A trio of artists are set to showcase their work at an exhibition in Royston next week.
Maggie Allen, Christine Norman and Selena Bragg will be displaying their art at the Curwens Art Gallery in High Street.
All three have different yet intertwining styles and inspirations, and their designs for this exhibition will fall under the theme of nature.
Maggie Allen, who is from Royston and paints abstract pictures using oils, told told the Crow: “I started painting in 2006, it was something I had always wanted to do.
“After learning to draw over the winter, I took up the paintbrush. It’s a challenge but I really enjoy it, I enjoy working mainly with oil.
“The theme of the exhibition is ‘influenced by nature’ and I have chosen to explore human nature and hope in these pictures.
“Of course, being abstract, everyone can interpret them in their own way.”
Christine Norman paints using a range of materials such as watercolours, acrylics and mixed media. Her work features pebbles, flowers and abstract seascapes.
The third artist – Selena Bragg – specialises in pottery, with a strong emphasis on the use of natural ingredients, such as horsehair and seaweed.
Selena met Maggie through Rowland Penfold, a Cambridge wood turner whose work regularly features at Curwens.
Speaking about Rowland, she said: “He came into one of my exhibitions and just fell in love with my work.”
Taking inspiration from the natural world, Selena uses a variety of techniques and firing methods to create her pieces.
She said: “One of the materials I often use is a pit in the garden, which I fill with sawdust and put in things like coffee grains, banana skins and seaweed, and just make a massive bonfire.
“I leave it for 24 hours then get a range of colours from it, like purples and oranges.”
“I never know what I’m going to get, it is completely unpredictable - no two pieces are the same.”
The exhibition will run from September 5 until November 3, and will be open only on weekdays from 9am until 5pm.
A preview will be held on Thursday, September 7, from 6pm until 8pm.
