That is the invitation to audiences for the Company of Ten’s stage production of the hit TV show ’Allo ’Allo which opens at the Abbey Theatre in St Albans tonight (Thursday).

The hugely successful TV sitcom, which is set in a French café during World War II, acquired cult status during its 10 years on British screens thanks to an iconic blend of slapstick, cultural stereotypes and sexual innuendo.

Since the series ended in 1992, the show has been revived on professional and amateur stages around the country and such is its enduring popularity that audience members have even been known to dress up as their favourite characters – something that won’t be discouraged at the Abbey Theatre.

Director Nick Tarrant said: “The success of comedy in live theatre always involves a jointly created ethos between the cast and the audience, and we hope that all our audiences will get into the spirit of this unique production.

“We don’t want anyone to feel under any pressure to dress up but if anyone chooses to do so, that can only add to the atmosphere and the fun.”

Performances take place on the Abbey Theatre main stage at 8pm from from tonight until Saturday (5) at 2.30pm on Sunday (6) and again at 8pm from Wednesday, July 9, until Saturday, July 12.

There will be an audio-described performance for blind and partially sighted people next Thursday and audience members wishing to use the service should book either by phone or in person at the box office.

To book tickets go to www.abbeytheatre.org.uk or call the box office on 01727 857861.
