Herts Jazz welcomes back club favourite Leon Greening this weekend.

The Leon Greening Trio will appear at the Terrace Suite, Hawthorne Theatre, tonight (Sunday).

The pianist’s last appearance at the venue was in September when he played a storming set as part of the 2013 Herts Jazz Festival.

Listening to Leon’s playing is like hearing a history of post-bop piano.

There are authentic and yet personal echoes of everyone from Bud Powell to Wynton Kelly, Barry Harris and Horace Silver, all the more remarkable for coming from a musician of such youth.

As a result, Leon is rightly regarded as among the best of the current crop of UK jazz pianists.

Joining him will be Adam King on bass and Steve Brown on drums.

The concert starts at 7.30pm, but due to refurbishment work at Campus West Herts Jazz gigs are being held in a more intimate space.
