THE Herts Senior County League's two top sides met on Saturday - but it was the Met Police who came away with the points.

Buntingford took the game to the league leaders early on and in the opening 20 minutes looked the most likely to score as their attack stretched the Met Police back line.

However, just before the half-hour mark it was Met Police who broke the deadlock when Gavin Chatterpaul strode into the box and fired the ball into the roof of the net following a poor Buntingford clearance.

And rather than trying to take control of the game, the home side allowed their opposition to take advantage of their goal and two minutes later had Damien Williamson scrambling with a well-taken free kick.

The Buntingford keeper could only parry the ball away, and when the ball was delivered back into the box Ross Shorto out-jumped Jamie Babbage and headed in off the post.

The rest of the half saw a desperate attempt by Buntingford to get back into the match, but like the previous week's defeat to Codicote they lacked their usual creativity.

At half time assistant manager Duncan Easley switched from a 4-4-2 formation to 3-5-2.

But despite Buntingford's best efforts they were unable to get that important goal.

Now, as a result of their second league defeat in two weeks, they sit seven points behind Met Police in the Premier Division.

Buntingford Town: Williamson, Endacott, Cain, J.Babbage, Easley (Hardy), Malins, Robins (M.Babbage), De Lacey, Smith (Beaumont), M.Turl, W.Turl.

- Buntingford reached the next round of the South Midlands Floodlit Cup with a comfortable 3-0 win over Broxbourne Borough of the Spartan Premier Division.

In what was possibly the club's best performance so far this season, the visitors dominated the game from the start with Conor De Lacey opening the scoring after 20 minutes.

Will Turl added a second shortly afterwards with a powerful header following Luke Robins' back post corner.

It was much of the same after the break, with Town impressive going forward and resolute at the back.

And Will Turl put the game beyond doubt after 69 minutes burying his strike into the bottom corner of the Broxbourne net to set up a third round encounter with either Arlesey Athletic or Potton United.

- On Saturday Buntingford entertain Herts Senior County League Division One side Hinton in the Anagram Records Trophy.
