Cambourne Rovers 0
Great Chishill 5
BIS Division 2A
GREAT CHISHILL eventually ran out comfortable winners on Saturday, but not before seeing a glut of chances go to waste.
They got off to the perfect start when Jonathan Drury’s curling cross was glanced in off a Cambourne head inside five minutes. This settled the visitors down and they played some good football early on. The lead was doubled after 20 minutes when Lee Smith played in Liam Henderson down the left wing. The ‘keeper was caught stranded having dashed off his line, but Henderson beat him to the ball and his cross dropped straight into the empty net.
Chishill should have had the game wrapped up by half time, but Smith saw two efforts fly over the bar from close range.
The one-way traffic continued into the second half and Smith, Gary Radford and Jonathan Drury were all denied in one-on-one situations with the goalkeeper. Another golden chance went begging when Smith squared the ball across the six yard box and neither Radford nor George Kew were able to finish.
As the opportunities were spurned, the hosts maintained their belief they could get something from the game. But Smith finally got it right for Chishill when he ran onto Drury’s header and rounded the ‘keeper with 20 minutes left. It was Smith who grabbed Chishill’s fourth, bundling the ball over the line from close range, before substitute Matt Graver wrapped the game up in the final minute. Smith was involved again, squaring the ball from the left for Graver to open his account for the first team.
Great Chishill: Fidler, Cockburn, Bennett, E Drury, Saward, Kew, Edey, J Drury, Henderson, Smith, Radford. Subs: Graver, Boulter, R Drury.
