Most football managers would be lamenting matches postponed due to poor weather.

But not Royston Town boss Steve Castle.

The former Birmingham City midfielder has overseen two matches since taking the reins at Garden Walk - a 0-0 draw at home to table-toppers and an impressive 4-1 away triumph at Potters Bar Town.

However, then followed three successive postponements, two in the league and one in the Red Insure Cup, that have left Royston’s players with itchy feet.

But Castle believes the lull in action can be viewed in a more positive light.

“It’s been a bit of a blessing for me to be honest, as I have been able to have a proper look at the lads here and get to know them all better,” he told the Royston Crow.

“For me, being new to the job, the break has been a bit of a benefit.

“We have been getting the lads in on their regular days training, have had practice matches, and I have seen some good things.

“There’s no secret, we have some good players here, you can see that from the position they got themselves in before I took the job.

The first impressions I have are very good; they all seem committed and eager to listen and take on board instructions.”

Castle is, however, hoping he can get back to the dugout for Saturday’s league trip to Uxbridge United.

“It will be enlightening for me as I don’t know too much about Uxbridge,” admitted the Crows boss.

“But it’s not about the opposition; it’s about doing everything we can to pressure the ball, pressure the opposition, and get a result. We will be well prepared.”

Joe De La Salle netted the only goal of the game as Royston won 1-0 in their home league game against Uxbridge back on October 8.
