ROYSTON Town boss Paul Attfield has praised the professionalism of his players after a resounding 8-0 victory on Tuesday night at home to Leighton Town.

The visitors arrived at Garden Walk in the midst of internal problems that saw them play the Evo-Stik Southern Central clash with only nine men.

And the Crows took full advantage of this as Luke Robins bagged a hat-trick, Matt Standen and Ryan Ingrey netted braces, and Ross Collins’ single completed the rout.

Following Saturday’s disappointing 1-0 away defeat to Beaconsfield, the game, as well as the win, couldn’t have come at a better time.

“They [Leighton] didn’t turn up with enough players, but we still had a job to do,” said Attfield.

“The most important thing was that we had to win the game, which we did. The amount of goals we scored was a nice bonus and will help our goal difference come the end of the season.

“We had four different scorers which was good, but also some of the assists for the goals were fantastic.

“You don’t expect it [playing against nine] in this league, but you have got to go out there and be professional, which we did.”

Meanwhile, Attfield has revealed that there was nothing sinister in choosing not to finish the game against Rugby Town two weeks ago.

Rugby’s captain Robbie Banks suffered a double leg break, and play was held up for half-an-hour.

“I felt there were enough of our players who weren’t in the right frame of mind, mentally, to finish the game,” added Attfield.

“It was very traumatising, and with the welfare of my players paramount, I felt it was the right decision. I have no regrets, and we have submitted our version of events to the FA.”
