Cambridge University Press A 0

GREAT CHISHILL were rewarded for their patience as they eventually ran out comfortable winners against Cambridge University Press on Saturday.

George Kew forced the goalkeeper into a good save with a low effort midway through the first half, but there was little incident apart from that until the opening goal. The deadlock was broken a minute before the break when Lee Smith played a neat one-two with Gareth Edey before slotting home.

The opening period of the second half proved hard work for the hosts, with Press showing resilience in midfield and defence without offering much of a threat going forward.

They finally found their stride just after the hour-mark when Smith doubled his and his team’s tally, running onto Gary Radford’s pass before rounding the ‘keeper and rolling the ball into the empty net.

Press’ heads dropped after that and Chishill rediscovered their quick passing game they had enjoyed at the start of the season. They added a third when Kew waltzed through the Press defence and found Radford unmarked who was left with a simple finish from close range.

Smith’s cross from the right was again met by Radford, who powered a header into the top corner to make it four.

The rout was complete 15 minutes from time when Radford ran onto a throughball and lobbed the ‘keeper from the edge of the box.

Press’ afternoon was made worse when their striker was sent off for a second yellow card in the closing minutes, while the result leaves Chishill hot on the heels of the league’s leading pack.

Great Chishill: Fidler; Cockburn, E Drury, Bennett, Miller; Kew, Edey, J Drury, Boulter; Smith, Radford.
