WELWYN Wheeler Laura Trott put in a superb performance at the 2011 European Track Championships to win two gold medals.
The London 2012 Olympic hopeful scooped an individual gold in the omnium and also helped GB to the top of the podium in the women’s team pursuit.
For Trott and Dani King it was their first time back to Apeldoorn since winning the women’s team pursuit there in the World Championships seven months previously.
This time the pair were joined in the team by Jo Rowsell and the outcome was the same.
The trio took the fastest qualification time on day one (Friday) of the championships and claimed a comfortable four-second victory over Germany in the final, their time was 3minutes 22.414seconds.
On day two in Netherlands Trott made an excellent start to her omnium, a six-event discipline.
She took fifth in the flying lap, first in the elimination and seventh in the points race.
On day three, Sunday, Trott secured the women’s overall victory in the omnium with first in the individual pursuit, 10th in the scratch (10km) and first in the 500m Time Trial.
Of her omnium gold success, Trott said: “I set myself up nicely yesterday (Saturday) really, coming into my best day in third was pretty good for me.
“I rode a perfect devil (elimination race) really, I couldn’t have rode it much better, and then obviously knowing I had the pursuit and 500 to come.
“I couldn’t have really done much more today (Sunday).
“I won the two events that I thought I was going to win, so yesterday just backed that up.
“Winning all six events, is that really ever going to happen? So winning three of the six events is pretty good!
“Omniums are a bit hit and miss, you never know how well it’s going to go.
“There were four crashes in the devil and that could have been me.”
Laura, who has targeted a place in the Great Britain team for next year’s Olympic Games, added: “I don’t want to count my chickens, but to win at the European level is pretty high.”
