Joanna Lines, from North Herts District Council, was the speaker at Monday's meeting.

She spoke on recycling and landfill sites, and said the amount of waste was doubling every 20 years.

Each household, she said, produced about a ton of rubbish a year, which included green garden waste, plastic, glass, and steel and aluminium cans.

Members received a recycling bag and leaflets were available, including offers for home composters and water butts.

Birthday cards and wishes went to Maureen Hammond and Mary Wickes.

Raffle: 1, Carol Town (confectionery); 2, Marion Smith (purse); 3, Barbara Williams (body scrubs).

The next meeting on December 4 will be a social evening.

- Members at a recent meeting were given a talk on Phoenix Trading Greeting Cards.

The club ran a book sale in aid of its charity of the year, Addenbrooke's breast cancer care unit.
