So to what extent are the remains of the “Beast from the East” and incoming Storm Emma going to wreak havoc in North Hertfordshire, Stevenage and Central Bedfordshire today and into the weekend?

So far the worst effects of the snow felt elsewhere in the UK have bypassed us, but a yellow weather warning remains in place for snow across the area until midnight tonight.

Temperatures in the south of the area at Stevenage are between -2 °C and -3 °C throughout the day, with the biggest chance of snow coming between 12 noon and 2pm this afternoon.

The picture is similar to the north-east of the area, in Royston.

The weather warning says there is the possibility of travel delays on roads, stranding some vehicles and passengers, and delays or cancellations to rail and air travel.

Some rural communities could become or remain cut off. Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phones, may be affected.

Moving into Friday, a yellow weather warning remains in place – but this time for ice and snow throughout the day, and then for ice on Saturday morning.

The warning expires at 9am on Saturday, with temperatures moving just above freezing on Saturday and up to 3°C on Sunday.
